Did you know your Golden Retriever is British?

During the 1800’s a man by the name of Lord Tweedmouth (yes, Tweedmouth) decided he needed a dog unlike any other. He needed a dog that was loyal, energetic, had a love for the water, and would be great at retrieving water fowl which Lord Tweedmouth was fond of hunting.

He knew that a dog such as this could not be found throughout all of Britain, but he was not discouraged. He found dogs of different varieties and began to create the dog of his dreams.

Through breeding the now extinct Tweed water Spaniel with many other varieties of dogs, such as, the Flat-Coated Retriever, the Newfoundland, the Irish Setter, and a few others, Lord Tweedmouth was able to produce one of the greatest dogs of all time. The wonderful Golden Retriever.

As you have already figured out, your golden LOVES water.  So, the next time you are washing your car or watering the flora, invite your pup to a few rounds of ‘catch’. The name of the game is for your golden to chase the water flow around and around until he catches it. This is a vigorous activity that he will absolutely love to engage in on a hot summer day!  Note: Start out gently, so he knows that you are playing; it won’t be long until he gets the hang of it. Have Fun, and let us know how it goes! We always love to hear from our family members.
